Interior Design is the process of decorating a space to make it more pleasing to the eye, and more comfortable for people to be in. Several components exist in Interior Design. Principally these are: Furniture, Wall Treatment, Flooring, Lighting and Accessories. An interior designer is a person whom may be considered an expert in the field of interior design or designs interiors for a living.

Styles

Essential parts of all design styles are theme, color, proportion and balance, and function of design. Although all styles differentiate their usage of each of these, they are all an integral part of the overall "look" of a room.

Theme

A theme is a consistent idea used throughout a room to create a feeling of completeness. These themes often follow period styles. Examples of this are Louis XV or Art Deco. The evolution of interior design themes has now grown to include themes not necessarily consistent with a specific period style allowing the mixing of pieces from different periods. Each element should contribute to form or function or both and maintain a consistent standard of quality and combine to create the desired design.
